At 5 p.m. June 11th, 2013 I was setting up to paint at Austin's Barber Shop. I had worked on this painting earlier in the week. The weather had been rainy and this offered a covered spot to paint, should it rain. I noticed a tall man coming out of the shop and we exchanged glances and a head nod. I decided to come back in a hour, after the shop closed. Had no idea I would meet this man again within 30 minutes.
I moved to another location a block away, where I had worked on another painting earlier.
10 minutes into working on this, gun shots rang out directly behind me. As I turned around , a car came careening around a corner and

As it appeared rain may be coming, I set up easel under the overhang at Austins barber shop, where I had started a painting the day before. A large burly man was exiting and gave me a nod. I thought it would be best to come back when they closed at 6. Thirty minutes later I would encounter this man again.

I moved less than a block away to finish another work, also started the day before.
With in 15 minutes I heard heard tires squealing and loud caliper gunshots ring out.
I turned around to witness a car careen into a large building and at least 9 gun shots go into that car. The media was there immediately from rockford and word spread that I was a eye witness to a police involved homocide. As I attempted to tell what I had seen, a man came behind the camera's and gave the cut throat sign. It was the man from the barber shop. Detective Joe Cassioppi. Off duty or undercover he informed me that this was not the best time to talk.
On my "works in progress" page I have posted the police dash cam video of event. Not a pleasant thing. The next day I did a interview for WREX tv in rockford and will try to locate to post.

Always work on multiple paintings at the same time. Some may be posted as Work In Progress. WIP. There are a few ways to paint in oil. My process involves putting down layers of thick over thin, and can take a while in set up times and such. Sometimes it takes a while for the painting to reveal itself. On occasion, it never does.
Starting a series of paintings around cocktails. Why? I need to mix up my palette and mixed drinks have a wonderful "mix" of colors. Plus they have that water I like to stir up. Expect to add one a month for this upcoming year.
