I have been commissioned to paint one of three works
commemorating janesville's early developement
this work depicts 1850 - 1860. The railroad influence.
Mr Hyatt Smith, Janesville's first mayor, was influencial in bringing the railroads, and hence,
the likes of a Mr Tallman whose mansion is illustrated. A young Abe Lincoln spent the night there
and well, you know the rest of that story.
The main figure represents the frit of the average hard working citizen of that time,
